Ostrich are generally considered to be hardy animals, surviving and thriving in some of the harshest environmental conditions. Although commercially farmed ostrich are protected from these extremes, the production standards achieved are often lower than the possible potential.

Genex Ostrich, incorporating the Genex microbial control technology, plays a vital role in raising productivity levels in breeders and growers alike. Used either alone or in conjunction with other Optivite nutritional products it can improve breeder performance (egg numbers and hatchability) so producing more viable chicks. When used to treat chick grower feeds, early mortality can be significantly improved.

In one South African example, applying Genex Ostrich to starter feeds reduced 3-month mortality to 5% from the typical industry level of 15%. With these extra birds taken through to slaughter at 90kg an increased income of 40 euros per bird was seen. The cost of treatment was only 1.00 euros per bird producing an impressive return on investment of 40:1.

Traditionally ostrich are fussy, selective feeders. Experience has shown that Genex Ostrich is a strong attractant; rendering feeds highly palatable and encouraging intake. Consequently growth rates are greatly improved, adding to the efficiency of production and profitability of the enterprise.
